Narek Hakhnazaryan ha vinto il Premio per violoncello e la medaglia d’oro al XIV Concorso internazionale di Čajkovskij nel 2011 all’età di 22 anni, suonando con le principali orchestre di tutto il mondo e si è affermato a livello internazionale come uno dei migliori violoncellisti della sua generazione. Hakhnazaryan ha ottenuto il plauso della critica in tutto il mondo, con The Strad che lo descrive come “incredibilmente brillante” e il San Francisco Chronicle che celebra il suo spettacolo come “a dir poco magnifico”. Nel 2014 è stato nominato artista della BBC New Generation e nell’agosto 2016 ha fatto il suo debutto ai BBC Proms riscuotendo grande successo ed è stato acclamato dalla critica.

Nella stagione 2017-2018, Hakhnazaryan gira il Nord America con più di una dozzina di spettacoli di vario repertorio orchestrale e recital. I momenti salienti includono due concerti del Notturno di Ciajkovskij per violoncello e orchestra e Variazioni su un tema rococò con Hannu Lintu che dirige la St. Louis Symphony, un tour con l’Orchestra Sinfonica di Stato di Mosca guidata da Pavel Kogan con le esibizioni del Concerto per violoncello di Schumann alla Michigan State University Wharton Center, Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts dell’Università del Connecticut, SUNY Purchase e University of Florida Performing Arts e il Concerto per violoncello di Shostakovich con la Erie Philharmonic diretta da Daniel Meyer. Altri punti salienti includono una trasmissione radio in diretta alla Dame Myra Hess Concert Series di Chicago. Nel 2015 ha debuttato con grande successo con la Los Angeles Philharmonic e Lionel Bringuier all’Hollywood Bowl e ha fatto un tour in Spagna con la WDR Symphony Orchestra di Colonia e Jukka-Pekka Saraste, e nell’estate del 2017 ha girato il Sudest asiatico con concerti a Taipei, Seoul, Kyoto e Tokyo, che includevano un’esibizione delle sei Suites per violoncello di Bach.

Interessante musicista da camera e recitalist, Hakhnazaryan si è esibito alla Carnegie Hall di New York, al Jordan Hall di Boston al New England Conservatory, all’Harris Theater di Chicago, al Concertgebouw di Amsterdam, alla Salle Pleyel di Parigi, alla Wigmore Hall, alla Konzerthaus di Berlino, alla Konzerthaus di Vienna, all’Oji Hall di Tokyo, Shanghai Sala concerti e festival stimati come Ravinia, Aspen, Piatigorsky, Meclemburgo-Pomerania Anteriore, Kissinger Sommer, concerti estivi Robeco, Beethovenfest Bonn, Mikkeli, Pau Casals, Lucerna e Verbier, tra molti altri.

Hakhnazaryan ha ricevuto borse di studio dalla Fondazione Rostropovich e dal Russian Performing Arts Fund, e premi tra cui il Primo Premio nel Concorso Internazionale Aram Khachaturian nel 2006 in Armenia e il Primo Premio nel Concorso Internazionale Johansen 2006 per giovani string players. Come vincitore del primo premio nelle Audizioni internazionali dei Giovani artisti da concerto del 2008, Hakhnazaryan ha debuttato alla Carnegie’s Zankel Hall ea Washington, DC.

Narek Hakhnazaryan è nato a Yerevan, in Armenia, in una famiglia di musicisti: suo padre è violinista e sua madre è una pianista. Mentorato dal compianto Rostropovich, Hakhnazaryan ha ricevuto un diploma d’artista dal Conservatorio di musica del New England nel 2011, dove ha studiato con Lawrence Lesser. Since winning the Cello First Prize and Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 at the age of 22, Narek Hakhnazaryan has performed with major orchestras across the globe and has established himself internationally as one of the finest cellists of his generation. Hakhnazaryan has earned critical acclaim worldwide, with The Strad describing him as “dazzlingly brilliant” and the San Francisco Chronicle hailing his performing as “nothing short of magnificent.”  In 2014 he was named a BBC New Generation Artist and in August 2016 he made his highly distinguished and critically acclaimed BBC Proms debut.

In the 2017-2018 season, Hakhnazaryan tours North America with more than a dozen performances of diverse orchestral and recital repertoire. Highlights include two concerts of Tchaikovsky’s Nocturne for Cello and Orchestra and Variations on a Rococo Theme with Hannu Lintu conducting the St. Louis Symphony, a tour with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra led by Pavel Kogan with performances of the Schumann Cello Concerto at Michigan State University’s Wharton Center, University of Connecticut’s Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, SUNY Purchase and University of Florida Performing Arts and the Shostakovich Cello Concerto with the Erie Philharmonic conducted by Daniel Meyer. Additional highlights include a live radio broadcast at the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago. Hakhnazaryan also gives several recitals with pianist Noreen Polera, performing lush, vibrant programs of Albeniz, Brahms, Cassado, Ligeti, Massenet, Schedrin and Tsintsadze among others with San Francisco Performances, the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, the Peoples’ Symphony Concerts series in New York and the Redwood Arts Council. In 2015 he made a hugely successful debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Lionel Bringuier at the Hollywood Bowl and toured Spain with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and in Summer 2017 he toured Southeast Asia with concerts in Taipei, Seoul, Kyoto and Tokyo, which included a performance of the six Bach Cello Suites.

An eager chamber musician and recitalist, Hakhnazaryan has performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall, Boston’s Jordan Hall at New England Conservatory, Chicago’s Harris Theatre, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Salle Pleyel Paris, Wigmore Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus, Vienna Konzerthaus, Oji Hall Tokyo, Shanghai Concert Hall and esteemed festivals such as Ravinia, Aspen, Piatigorsky, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Kissinger Sommer, Robeco Summer concerts, Beethovenfest Bonn, Mikkeli, Pau Casals, Lucerne and Verbier, amongst many others.

Hakhnazaryan has received scholarships from the Rostropovich Foundation and the Russian Performing Arts Fund, and awards including First Prize in the 2006 Aram Khachaturian International Competition in Armenia and First Place in the 2006 Johansen International Competition for Young String Players. As First Prize winner in the 2008 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Hakhnazaryan made his debuts at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall and in Washington, DC.

Narek Hakhnazaryan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, into a family of musicians: his father is a violinist and his mother a pianist. Mentored by the late Rostropovich, Hakhnazaryan received an Artist Diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2011 where he studied with Lawrence Lesser. Prior to this he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Alexey Seleznyov and at the Sayat-Nova School of Music in Yerevan with Zareh Sarkisyan.
